Welcome to the website of a new school – King
Henry VIII Preparatory School
After a year of careful preparation, King Henry VIII Preparatory
School will officially open on Monday 1st September 2008 and will
receive its first pupils a few days later when Autumn
Term officially begins.
Coventry Preparatory School and King Henry VIII Junior School
Coventry are two outstanding independent schools which are already
part of the Coventry School Foundation and have membership of the
Incorporated Association of Preparatory Schools. Each currently
has close to 250 pupils. Coventry Prep educates children from the
age of 3 to 11 and King Henry VIII Junior School educates children
from the age of 7 to 11.
After careful deliberation, the governors of Coventry
School Foundation have decided to create a school that provides seamless education
for children aged from 3 to 11 by combining the two schools. Children
may then advance into secondary education at King Henry
VIII Senior School, at the age of 11, or another school of
their parents’ choice. For those who wish it, however, from
September 2008 education from the age of 3 – 18 will be available
at the same school (KHVIII).

express themselves" |
King Henry VIII Preparatory School will have a pupil capacity
of 500, making this one of the largest independent 3 - 11 schools
in the Midlands. There are significant advantages to be gained
from a big school but class sizes will remain small with a maximum
class size (up to the age of 8) of 16 pupils and between the ages
of 8 and 11 of 20 pupils.
The School will retain its two excellent, existing campuses. Children
aged from 3 to 8 (Nursery to Year 3) will be educated at the Prep
School campus, to be known as Swallows; children aged from 8 – 11
(Years 4 – Year 6) will be educated at the Junior School
campus, to be known as Hales. Each campus is a few minutes’ walk
from the other, thus there will be good communication between the
two but at the same time each campus will be able to retain a sense
of being a small school where all children are well known to staff
and where there is a family atmosphere, so important to the well-being
and care of children in the primary age range.
There will be one overall head teacher with responsibility
for leading the whole school and a deputy head in charge of the
day-to-day running of each campus. The new headmaster will be Mr.
Nicholas Lovell.
The combining of two excellent schools to create a single outstanding
school represents a very important step forward in the strategic
thinking of the Governors of Coventry School Foundation and is
one aspect of a comprehensive review of the education for children
aged from 3 – 11 undertaken by the Coventry School Foundation
at the start of the 21st Century.
