Mr Laulala Langkilde - Head of Boys’ Games

Talofa lava! Mr Langkilde was born in the South Pacific island
of Samoa and emigrated to New Zealand when he was 11. In New Zealand
he attended Mt Albert Grammar School for Boys which has one of
the best academic and sporting reputations in the country. There
he represented the school in rugby, athletic, cricket, basketball
and volleyball where he was selected for the province and country.
In 1991 Lau was picked to play representative rugby for Auckland
and international rugby for New Zealand U19. In the same year he
represented Samoa for his first full international enabling him
to participate in the Rugby World Cup. He became a professional
rugby player after the 1995 World Cup and signed a 5 year contract
to play for Nippon Steel Kamaishi in Japan. In 2000 he joined Worcester
Warriors, England, where he played professionally for two more
years before retiring in 2002.
Mr Langkilde joined Coventry Preparatory School in September 2002
as a part time member of the Games staff. In 2004 he joined King
Henry VIII Junior and Senior School as a rugby and basketball coach.
Now, as Head of Boys’ Games he also teaches P.E to boys
and girls from Reception to Year 6 as well as managing the School
Holiday Sports Club for children aged 8-11 and Saturday Morning
Sport for 5 to 11 year olds.
Lau also works as a selector and coach for Warwickshire, Coventry
Schools and Old Coventrians Rugby Club He passes on his experience
and knowledge to young aspiring sportsmen and women believing sport
does improve the lives of young people.
Lau is married to Audrey and has two daughters Aklyne and Arisa.
